cannot get key for cellar from mimic in custard mansion how do i defeat them

Simple... you just bash away using your melee weapon, and use your shield to block if it tries to burn you (yes the fire stream or "inferno" can be blocked, but it might cause some damage to your shield). Or you can climb up somewhere and fire off knives until the mimic dies (assuming it doesn't find the way to go up to your vantage point), but you should be close to it if it dies or the drops might be erased by the game. Try the second solution if your character is too weak to melee them (their open wounds ability can be quite annoying).

Also, I noticed that mimics are surprisingly not immune to fire although they breathe it, so you can try to damage the mimic by using fireballs, making it easier to melee afterwards because it'll be wounded already.

I generally use Freezing Touch and Blade of Baal for them. With Arcane Magic at 5 or so, Freezing Touch will stick to them for a bit and you can get in a few free swings with melee.

My last character had an easy time with those mimics: I cast Slow Monster, then bashed away with a Voodoo Mace. Most mimics died before the spell wore off, and some of them died without attacking/breathing on me once thanks to being slowed/stunned. That was with a level 8 human female character.

i have a method that works pretty good. i waited for a while b4 going into the slums like after i killed the elders. i was also mage class and just used ice shards. keeps them frozen and if you cast fast enough they never unfreeze. just make sure to get the shot off before it can atttack you (quite annoying when your looking like your shooting it and your not)
