Industry forum?

Post by Tricky »

While I appreciate the dialogue brought forth by news postings, it is always reactionary. Are there others besides me who think a sort of news/industry forum open to everyone would be a good idea? Since it would encompass mostly the industry it wouldn't really fall under any single existing forum category. For example, a rant on EA's acquisition practices is too on-topic for SYM, but really has no place in the general RPG forum.

Not a request for a new forum. I am merely curious how other feel about this.

I wouldn't mind. In fact, in the case of non-RPG games, I felt uncomfortable discussing issues affecting them in the Non-RPG section since it's more to talking about non-RPG games people have played.
''They say truth is the first casualty of war. But who defines what's true? Truth is just a matter of perspective. The duty of every soldier is to protect the innocent, and sometimes that means preserving the lie of good and evil, that war isn't just natural selection played out on a grand scale. The only truth I found is that the world we live in is a giant tinderbox. All it takes...is someone to light the match" - Captain Price

I don't know... What would like to discuss in such forum? Business? Trends? Monopolization? Manipulation? Hidden agenda? Zombification? Death of console? Death of PC gaming? Death of gamers with INT>6?

Well.. for about half of those, think of how different it would be from bringing them up in a news posting. Since we can't have duplicate threads around, the number of irrelevant topics will dwindle down. We should see an emphasis on information relevant to our discussions on GB, which we can search ourselves to further the points we try to get across, anywhere. We do so love that search button at GB.

Put it this way, right now we're being little more than critics. While we seem to have generally conform opinions on various subjects, they only surface through news postings that we don't agree with. There may be a sense of righteousness to that, but it is still partisan to the big picture. We have no platform to come to our own conclusions.

Hmmm just saw this topic..

I think it is an interesting idea, but I'm not sure how it would work. The two options would be to create a brand new forum or expand upon GB News..
The danger is that expanding GB News would likely result in actual news threads becoming lost in the somewhat more broader discussion... but if we created a new forum it's possible that it would not get an overwhelming amount of traffic.

IMO, why not just stick threads on subjects like this into SYM? It does say "Anything Goes Just Keep it Clean," after all ;)
And heaven knows, SYM could probably use the stimulus.
