Personally, my vote goes to Queesryche for Operation: Mindcrime. It just totally rocked and the overall conceptwas excellant.
Other than that I'd have to say The Crimson Idol by WASP. In case you didn't know, I like concept albumns.

Possibly 'As Above so Below' by Barry Adamson.
Or Preemptive Strike by DJ Shadow.

My favorite (by a long shot):
Roger Waters - Amused to Death
If you like concept albums, and enjoyed any Pink Floyd at all, you should pick it up.

Yeah it was ok - a little tired though I think. I bought that CD with such great anticipation and felt a little let down by it. PF did much better with The Wall - the best all time concept album in my own twisted opinion. PS - I am a big PF fan, but lost interest after Mr Waters took his disturbed self off elsewhere.
For me, the first 4 (!) that jump to mind are:
The Wall - Pink Floyd
Vision Thing - Sisters of Mercy
Different Class - Pulp
Americana - Offspring
I could not find a weak link anywhere on these albums...depends on my mood - I could give a few more...

I love all Metallica albums, but my favorite like almost any other fan, is the Black album.
I also like alot of other cd's by various artists.
I also like Pink Floyd and Black Sabath.

I think Joy Division are the kings of Goth if only because of their name

And because the singer committed suicide!

I wasn't sure of the situation surrounding his death, but i knew it was something tragic. They were an excellent band though.

"Love, love will tears us apart again...."
Classic. But they did not do a great deal else. Don't get me wrong - I am not a follower of poppy Goth. The Mission? they were OK but they would have never been The Sisters.
A great Goth (actually more 'dark'!) compilation is one called 'Nocturnal' which contains (yes The Sisters) among Bauhaus, The Cult, The Fields of the Nephilim (arrrggghhh!!!), Nine Inch Nails, Killing Joke, The Smiths (!), Echo and the Bunnymen....

@Mr Sleep - IIRC I believe Ian Curtis was a manic depressive and I think he hung himself.

Trance is okay by me, but as concept albums they are not exactly at the fore front.

Yshania - I personally prefer Amused over the Wall. Now, I did suffer through Radio KAOS, and Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking to get there, so maybe by contrast, Amused gets the big vote from me. I still get chills from "It's a Miracle" and "Three Wishes". He also has some of the best lyrics ever, IMO
"Newshounds sniff the air,
When Jessica Hahn goes down,
He latches on to that symbol of detachment,
Attracted by the peeling away of feeling,
The celebrity and the abused child, the belle."
