I just purchased the P:T game after having it recommended by some of the great people over at the BG2 forum. I do not plan on playing it until after I've finished BG2 but I would like to load it on om computer to see if it works. I'm running windows xp media addition. So here's my questions.

1. From what I read, I gather that the 2 CD Ver. (which is what I have) is already patched with the official 1.1 patch. Is that correct?

2. Should I download the "Unofficial Fix patch" V.1.37?

3. Also looking at loading the G3 Tweak Pack. Does this have to be loaded last like the G3 Tweak Pack for BG2?

4. Are there any Banter Packs for this game like BG2?

5. And last but not least, could you list the load order for all these things for me?

Great choice to get in to P:T. You won't regret it. Be preprared for some true fantasy.

1. Yes, that version is already patched.

2. Definitly.

3. Yup.

4. I don't think so. You might want to do a google on that, or check http://www.sorcerers.net, or the Gibberlings Three website, but I haven't heard of any such thing.

5. I'd say: Basic Game, unofficial patch, Tweak Pack. Be sure to read the readmes that come with the unofficial patch & the Tweak Pack.

One last minor issue: It might be possible to get PS:T to work with WinXP, you have to run it in compatibility mode. To do this, go to the PS:T .exe, normally it can be found at: C:\Program Filmes\Black Isle\PlanescapeTorment\Torment.exe.(It might look slightly different, I'm not on my PC, so I can't check.) Right click on the Torment.exe, select properties, and go to the Compatibility tab, tick on "Compatibility Mode" and select Win98.
If your game runs fine without doing this last step, don't bother and just play.

It loaded OK on XP and I did a trial run (created temp character and fooled around in the mortuary for a while), every thing seemed to be working fine.

One problem, when I click on the downloads link on GB for the "unofficial patch" the place it takes me does not give me a link to the patch. The one that's there is a dead link. Any suggestions?

There is no banter pack but I downloaded the G3 Tweak Pack. Have not loaded it yet, want to find the "unofficial patch first.

Just finished downloading the Torment Fix Pack v1.37.

At this site they have a March 30 2008 update for new fixpack called SKARDAVNELNATE and they give a link. Know anything about this one?

If I get to be a pain in the butt with these questions please let me know. The guys over at the BG2 forum have gotten used to me asking dumb stuff:laugh:

I'm new at this. Started playing PC games after I retired from the fire department after 30 years. In my 60's and not to computer savvy, but I do love these games. Plan on starting this one after I finish BG2 SoA & ToB

I don't know anything about that latest update, since I haven't played the game since. It looks dependable enough.
If you do not trust it entirely, I can ensure you that the game with the Unofficial Patch runs fine enough. You should note, however, that SKARDAVNELNATE makes the unofficial patch compatible with the tweak pack. I checked out its instructions, and they seem clear.

So if I want to load the G3 Tweak pack, I probably should use the new SKARDAVNELNATE Fix pack to make every thing compatible?

It's nothing about the name.
I think SKARDAVNELNATE's instructions say that after installing the Tweak pack, you should copy some files from his patch over some of the Tweak pack, so I think the order should be:

Game which is already loaded.
Unofficial Patch
SKARD....Patch
G3 Tweak Pack.
Some SKARD files again.

I'm sorry about being so stupid about this stuff, but I need to ask another couple questions please.

I went to the link you posted above and followed the Installation instructions just as they are written.

When I open my Program Folder, and then the Black Isle folder in the Black Isles folder there is 3 folders inside. BGII-SOA, Planescape-Torment, and Torment.

When I open the one titled Planescape-Tormnet there are 4 folders ,G3PSTweakpack and a lot of files and stuff. The 4 folders in here are titled cache, Music, ereg, and override.

Now if I go back to the Black Isles Folder and open the folder titled Torment, it takes me to another folder titled override.

The contents of the of the two override folders (the one in Torment and the one in Planscape-Torment) are different. There are some that have the same file names but a lot are different.

Have I done something wrong here or is this the way it's supposed to be. Sorry about being so paranoid, but I've not done a lot of this downloading. My grandson usually helps me. but he's not around for a while.

The "Torment" folder is the game folder, at least it is on my PC. My best guess is that you should extract all files that need to go in an override, be they patch, unofficial patch, tweak pack, SKARN... or cabbage ( ), should go in the override-folder in the "Torment" folder. Follow the order we discussed above, and when prompted to override something, click "yes".

I hope someone who has installed all these extras soon shows up, because I can only make (educated) guesses about things.

GawainBS, I think I just figured out what I did wrong.

On the installation instructions at the link you gave me it said to enter the following when extracting the files;

C:\Program Files\Black Isle\Torment\override

Well I uninstalled everything and reloaded and checked my Black Isle Folder and my Planescape game folder is named "Planescape - Torment".

So I ran the unofficial fix pack again, this time in the command line after \Black Isle\ I put "Planescape - Torment\override\ with out the quotes and it put it all in the override folder in the Planscape - Torment game folder and did not create another folder called Torment. I said yes to all the "override prompts and I think (hope) I did it right this time. Damn I'm proud of me:laugh:

Glad I could help. It sounds like you solved the problem in the right way. I think the 2 CD version names the game folder "Planescape - Torment", file the 4 CD version just names it "Torment".

OK, thought I had this all figured out, but guess I was wrong.

1. Now the game won't load. I get a message about windows having to shut down and do I want to send an error message.

2. I uninstalled every thing because of the following:

A. I'm totally confused about patches and fixes. I have the 2CD ver. which from what I read in the forums has the "official patch" but now I'm reading about all these other fixes and mods.

On the first install, I had G3 Tweak Pack and the Platter Fix Pack v1.37.

Now I'm reading about the 3 new mods by Qwinn and that one of these includes the Platter Fix Pack v1.37.

Also can't figure out why the game loaded once, ( I walked around in the Mortuary for a while to get a feel of the game and then quit without saving.) but now won't load.

From all I've read this is really a great game, and I would like to play it. Plus the thing cost me over 100.00 USD on amazon.com:laugh:

Any way if someone that knows about all these fixes and mods can help me by telling me 1. What to load 2. And in what order.

GawainBS, sorry for doing this again, because I know I was probably getting on your nerves the first time, but I don't think these Qwinn mods where out then. And I'm really confused about the tweak packs. Do you need G3 and Qwinn.

Anyway, last time I played this, it was with the official patch (which you already have) and this: Planescape-Torment.Org
I can't say anything about the other fixes. I can garantuee that the game is entirely enjoyable without them.
If you re-install, delete the entire folder, just to make sure that any "left-overs" are removed.
I reread this thread and the sites, and it seems you did it entirely correct. Just apply the fix 1.37 and play with that, if the other packs don't work.
Oh, and WIS should definitly be 18, and INT 14 or so. Those two are your two most important stats in PS:T. (Mainly because you get better conversation options and more background info. Helps you understand what's happening.)

With regards to the new fixes and patches, I would definitely install the new ones.

[url="http://spellholdstudios.net/ie/pst-ub"]This[/url] is the Unfinished Business mod, which completes and/or adds some things to the game that it shipped without (finishing off some quests, adding a few dialogues that were mostly complete). Of the three, this is the most optional. Also, while most of it is good to install, you definitely do *not* want to install the cheat items at the end...the mod itself doesn't recommend them, but included the option anyways.

The first couple things are very nice, like the Banter Accelerator (otherwise, most inter-party dialogues don't occur), Stackable Rings/Charms/Bracelets, and Max HP per level. Those three things are generally very good to have, but they're the only things you should probably install (don't install any other parts of the mod).

Since the game is having trouble, I would uninstall it completely, reinstall it, and install the mods in the following order:

1) Fixpack
2) Unfinished Business
3) Tweakpack

That *should* work.

Also, the above links all have readme links and download links on the page, in case you wanted to know what each part of the mod does.

Just about finished with BGII ToB I think

So my question is. Should I uninstall BGII SoA & ToB before installing Planescape: T?

When I play BG & BGII again I would like to try a couple mods if that makes any difference. Hard drive space is not a problem.

If space isn't a problem, why ask about uninstalling BG 1 and 2? You can play them again anytime you want.

Sorry if the question was dumb. Just was not sure if having all three games loaded at the same time would slow game play down.

When I click on my c: drive it says I have 117 GB free. I have 3 GB ram. Not very computer smart. So was just checking to see if I was ok with 3 games loaded at same time.

It's fine. You have a fair amount of space left. It will only slow your computer down if you get very close the 117 GB limit.

I currently have 42 games loaded on my home computer. :laugh:
