Though im sure this is an endlessly discussed topic (im new here and didnt feel like reading through 52 pages of forums to make sure i wasnt starting the same thing again) i beleive ive found the heros true name. Theres a book (found in Oakvale) called "The Trials of Aarkan" and if you read it tells a story exactly like the plot of the game (just read it its obvious). So this makes it quite obvious that his name is Aarkan. Mystery solved

His real name? I doubt he has any. I bet the reason this guy have no name is the same reason that main character in the Gothic series is nameless. For 'Role-playing' purposes, if you ask me.

That book is just a joke, a reference to the unoriginality of the game, even though it is referring to the Hero it's also referring to tones of other stories, take the Harry Potter book(or movie, which ever you prefer), also Aarkan sounds just like Arkon(the name of the Hero's ancestor, the king of the Old Kingdom and s***, you can hear his name everywhere but the Oracle can give you the best description), is his name Aarchon or not... who knows, probably the guys at Lionhead studios but hell is gonna freeze over before they tell us lowly gamers the truth, they just love to see us suffer.

For all intents and purposes, the hero's name is just "Hero". Seeing as how he is of an ancient bloodline, Archon could be his title. It can't be his surname because his mother is the link to the bloodline, and his father is just a simple woodsman.
All we know about his family is that his father's name is Brom, his sister is Theresa, and his mother is Scarlet Robe.
Having the character be named "Hero" makes it easier to get the people of Albion shouting prepicked titles instead of trying to sound out names people put in - it's hard for computers to figure out how to pronounce things, as anyone who's messed with the Speech functions in the Windows Control Panel could tell you.

Microsoft Sam isn't the best at reading... and DesR85 is right RPG characters are nameless on a lot of occasions for the fact that YOU portray the character and name them.

It's simple, his name is whatever nickname you buy at the stand.
