I'm still trying to grasp this. Apparently, the cat has been responsible for turning around the railway's bad financial situation, if I read it correctly. To quote from the review:

All the 9-year-old female cat has to do is sit by the entrance of western Japan’s Kishi Station, wearing a black uniform cap and posing for photos for the tourists who are now flocking in from across the nation.

But that makes a world of sense.

That is freakin sweetness.
Her job makes cultural sense in Japan, where cats are considered good luck and are believed to bring in business.
Guess it proves this is statement correct.

I wonder if they carry the cat everywhere so it doesn't have to walk. And why cat I be praised for sitting around doing nothing? Not fare.

Even the fur composition matches with Skimbleshanks, the railway cat:

That musical did tour Japan five years ago. Including the area where that station is supposed to be, a city in Osaka. It has to be either a prank article of some sort, or one of those incomprehensible Japanese social phenomenons. Like the Laughing Cat or something.

Either way, it seems to be working for them.... :D

Didn't notice any unusual cats after the touring company was in this area..

Sounds a lot like superstition. Heh, since it works, good for them. ;)
