gamespy broken

i have a problem with gamespy and direct ip multiplayer. i have nobody to try lan with or i bet it would be broken too. i have went to the gamespy website and did what they said to do and still cannot host or join other peoples games. if any1 have a fix for this i would love to know it. also is any american playing c1.5 want to meet in gamespy chatroom and try to get a game going? any help would be deeply appreciated.
