Is this a silly reason to favor Guardians?:

I personally favor the Guardian class. I like fighters often in cRPGs, and Guardians are the fighters of the Jedi.
The real reason I totally dig Guardians in this game is different though:
I figure that I can never be the Jedi any of the NPCs can be in this game. Jedi NPCs are close in level to the PC, and the PC at best is gimped 2 levels of Jedi in his first class (and I'd NEVER go less than 4 or 5 levels, and even then I still feel kinda cheesy). Since the NPC Jedi will always have more powers and force points than me, I figure why not do something that the others can't do as well: Be a warrior. It just seems like the most useful addition to a group with two other Jedi.

Hm, I think the things you've said are interesting. Though, have you beaten the game yet?

I'm always a Guardian because years of RPG gaming have left me with a "Main character can never have too many hit points!" reflex.
But I don't cheez by refusing to level prior to becoming a Jedi. At all. I don't need to do it to win, and I'm not hung up on powergaming. I do play a dual-wield melee guy prior to Jedihood, though, just because some of the feats match up well once it's dual lightsabers.

No matter what you do the game is easy.
There are no silly reasons if it works for you. The important thing is to have fun. (I feel like an old geezer saying that)
The game does give you extra force points to try to make up for the lost levels. If you play a consular you will slaughter everything with totally overpowered force powers. Try it. You'll see what I mean. The missed levels are not a problem (although they might be if you go to level 9...) I must say that I havn't played a Sentinal, so I don't know if the Force is gimped for them. My understanding is that if your a guradian you use lightsabers, consulars use force, and sentinals mix the two. I don't know if KotOR screwed that up, but going back to the top, No matter what you do the game is easy.

Sentinels are hardly gimped. As you've mentioned the game is easy and the mix of the two means that proper feat/power purchasing means you can freely swap from killing as a Guardian/Counselor at any time you wish.

You can overpower the other Jedi quite easily actually. Go level 2 (Starting Class) and then level 18 Consular, with the right attribute stats you can have over 300 force points, and then laugh at enemy force users when their pathetic attempts to Force Push you etc have no effect. You can also quite easily walk into a room, zap it two or three times, and if there are 12 enemies they will all be dead from your deadly Force Storm.
Heck i didnt even need my lightsaber.
