I liked IWD the most, followed by IWD2.
I also liked BG1 more than BG2, which rather felt like a collection of entertainment features.
NWN1 was so horrible that I didn't even finish it, I never played NWN2.
If you like roleplaying depth over mainstream I recommend Planescape Torment, Black Isle's masterpiece.

As this topic goes far beyond the scope of IWD2, I'm moving it to RPG Discussion

In the following order: BG2, NWN2, IWD1, NWN1, BG1, IWD2. I am basing this on first play alone, as some of them I've only played once.
BG2: i understand what kmonster says about it being a collection of entertainment features, but thats what i loved about it. everything you did on first play through seemed to be part of some major side-quest, and the party interactions were a first to me at the time - and they really add so much to the game
NWN2: the only game (in the list) which can possibly come close to BG2 in terms of party interaction, which is my favourite part of these games. poor interface, many bugs, and being forced to have certain characters at certain times are what bring it below IWD1.
IWD1: first infinity engine game i played. if i had played it after any of the BG series i would have been disappointed, and with my lack of knowledge i found it stupidly hard - except the last boss, for some reason. but as it was, i enjoyed it immensly.
NWN1: the game the started my love of RPG's. in hindsight, is has many, many flaws, but i loved it.
BG1: at first, loved the openess of it. felt like i could go anywhere - in this sense, better than its sequel. in the end, got bored of so many maps with very little on them.
IWD2: found it boring. no party interaction, re-use of old maps, little to no story-line, confusing rule set.
Personally, I would put all the following games somewhere above NWN2 but below BG2: Fallout 1+2, Planescape: Torment, and Knights of the Old Republic 1.
So, my advice on which to get next is the BG series. Despite where i've listed them, I'd recommend doing them in order.

The order for me is as follows:
Planescape Torment - finest game I have ever played, period.
Deep, departs from the usual RPG stereotype, amazing story, wonderful writing
BG2 - A very close second to PST
I loved the party interactions, the NPCs made the story come alive, without them, the story would have been good, but not a near tie to PST.
BG1 - good game, a fine introduction to BG2, but just not as good as its successor.
IWD1 - If you are in the mood to kill things and you want to be able to actually think how you are going to get through a battle, this is definitely the one IMO. The story is not as gripping as BG2's or PST's, and I missed the party interaction, but fun gameplay, well written music, and nice visuals for its time.
IWD2 - For some reason I could never finish this one, usually about halfway through I just didn't care anymore, my impression always was that the game was more designed as a showcase for 3 rd edition rules than anything else. Though Domi's NPC mod is certainly a breath of fresh air, and with that in existence I may yet get to the end of IWD2 one of these days.
NWN1 - Blah.. What a major disappointment, got to the middle of the second chapter and shelved it. It was so utterly lacklustre, I can't think of a single positive thing to say about it, at least not in single player mode.
The expansions are better, however.
NWN2 - have yet to play it, the expansion, at least, makes it sound as though it could be a worthwhile purchase.

BG1 by far is in my opionion the best RPG out of not only those you mentioned, but all RPG's together.
BG1 when it was released was the most unique and thrilling RPG, nothing came close to making such huge medi evil game feel so exciting. That being said BG1 is a definate first for me, followed by BGII which was just a more updated version of BG1 engine but the story, enviroment, quests and free hand to explore were limited compared to that of BG1 I rekon.
NWN1 was good because it put you in a 3d world of Baldur's Gate type realm, but I still didnt think it compared to BG1 for some reason.
NWN2 was a better looking NWN game, thats about it.

Of those listed that I've played:
1. BG2
2. BG1
3. IWD
50. NWN poor game
666. NWN2 Worst 'RPG' ever. (calling it, or anything by Obsidian an RPG should be actionable under the trades description act!)

This deserves to be quoted!
Personally, I'd say:
1. PS:T
2. BGI & II. I put them on the same place, because I think that they should be viewed in context of each other.
3. IWD. A simple, yet entertaining, richly detailed story line with nice environments.
4. NWN. Original game is boring as hell, the expansions make it good, and the real fun comes from the mods.
5. IWDII. Like DW said, at some point, it gets boring. And it does a bad, bad job of showcasing the new rules, due to the Infinity engine not being written for them.

Jade Empire - the writing style in this game, the rules, the plot, small inventory and OF COURSE the companions hit the spot for me. I love it despite the twitch, despite not generally caring for con-fu stuff, despite not really having a party. I just love that game....
NWN2 - the Toolset is gorgeous. The campaign itself is not too shabby either. But mainly the Toolset! Yay!
KOTOR: The more I played BG games, the more I liked the original KOTOR. There are a lot of things done right there. The only thing that is really 'wrong' there, is that they only allow 2 NPCs to join the active party and too few random banters.
Baldur's Gates: taken together, and modded. By all the good reasons lsited by the good folk above.
IWD2, modded: Unlike other folks I actually loved the rule implementation. Neither overly complex, nor too restrictive. I came to like it much more when I was modding it. It actually has a ton of content that is only unlocked by playing with different characters.
IWD1 - I played it, but I barely remember doing it. I can't even remember the plot. That's really bad.
NWN1, PS:T - dislike profoundly.
Arcanum - can't go past the 'OMG, it's so ugly!' barrier.
