Considering playing ToSC?

Hi everybody!

I'm new to this forum, so I hope I'm not doing anything wrong :)
So I just got to the end of Chapter 5 and I started wondering if the ToSC expansion is worth it. Should I pass it before ending the game, or should I just hurry up to BG II? I've heard a lot of good words about the sequel and I can hardly wait to finish the first game and export my character. At first look ToSC seems to add new enemies and some new areas, but nothing to the main story.

Welcome to the Forums.

Yes, please do get the expansion pack. It is worth every penny, especially since it's now at bargain price. :)

The BG series brings back fond memories and I am looking forward to playing through everything again once I am done with Oblivion/ Morrowind.

The expansion is worth it. You get a lot of additional items, a tower full of enemies, riddles, traps, etc. and cool quests involving werewolves and wizards. Also, you get three battles that are actually really tough. There is the Demonknight (16.000 XP!), a large group of cultists including backstabbing assassions and wizards, and finally the strongest enemy in BG1, a Tanari, a real demon who is stronger than Sarevok, and gives more XP too (26.000 i think).

I hate demons and extremely difficult battles, they are the reason I never made it through the final battle of Icewind Dale II... I'll give it a try though. Thanks for the advice.

PS. Do druids in ToSC have wildshape?

You don't miss anything important if you don't play it.
TotSC was filled with unfair save and reload orgy battles to keep the the players from realizing how short the extra content is.
The TotSC content doesn't have to do anything with the story arc through BG1-BG2-ToB either.

The extra TotSC expansion areas are fantastic.

The game engine enhancements makes the whole game better.

My dudes were at 89k experience points during Chapter 5. TotSC raises the XP cap to 161k. I could NOT image going through the last third of the game with no XP and ability gains.

The only thing better than the Baldur's Gate Saga, is more of the Baldur's Gate Saga. TotSC is a no-brainer.

No, the games use 2nd edition rules. Normal Druids are useless in Baldur's Gate series. They can turn into a wolf or bear at level 5, 6, 7, 8 or whatever, and by that time it is useless (these forms do not improve either). A multiclass Druid/Fighter (such as the Jaheira NPC) can do very well however, and the Shapeshifter kit (as used by Cernd, a BG2 NPC) is probably too powerful if you use a "fixed" version (the class does not function as described in the normal, patched game). Aside from bears and (were)wolves, that's it for Druid shapeshifting. The only way to get some of those shapes you can get as a high-level Shifter in NWN: SOU/HOTU is by means of the Shapeshift spell (Level 9 arcane spell).
