MoB interface probs

I never found the interface much of a problem in NWN2, though I always found the camera a bit of a pain in the backside.
I have now installed Mask of the Betrayer, and find the interface very, VERY annoying, and the camera ridiculous. The scenery spins around all the time, the viewpoint can finish up underneath you, and trying to SEE the direction you want to move is time consuming and irritating. I gave up on the MoB and went back to NWN2 to create a new char and try to get used to the new interface, which is helping a bit, but not much.
And does anyone else find the upgraded scenery a bit off-putting?

Ok, I haven't played NWN2 for quite a while (been playing Oblivion), so I am out of touch with the interface (Oblivion interface is SO nice and easy and smooth!), but all the same, surely it shouldn't be so tricky to handle?

WHAT AM I DOING WRONG? A little advice would be VERY welcome! :)

Are you trying to use the over-the-shoulder view? I used the overhead view and didn't have any problems.

agreed, well kinda

There are two different views to look from using the * button on your number pad to switch between, i used both of them depending on where i was, but if your trying to use personal view for some things you will have huge problems with the camera (well bigger problems, camera on two has always been a pretty big problem in my option)

I'm finding both camera views problematic. It wouldn't be so bad, I think, if the least mouse movment, even on the least sensitive setting, didn't cause wild swings round and round, or oscillating back and forth, back and forth for ages. This never happened before I installed MotB! And, as you can imagine, this makes it difficult to see where you need to go... :(

To be honest, I turned off the edge screen scrolling and I use the arrow keys instead to turn the camera. Less efficient but copeable with. I use the right-mouse button to change the camera angle. This can be nice as I can get right down to ground level at times and the view from there can be great.

Someone did give me instructions to change the ini file to tone down the camera responses. You are not alone in finding the camera operation difficult. I never did follow these instructions so can't tell you if they work but you're welcome if they help. I found a way to work with the camera and left it at that. Needless to say, please back up any files you alter BEFORE you start fiddling.

Patch 1.10 and MotB

Camera Edge Scrolling Settings for mouse:

In Character Mode:

Check: Turn Camera on hitting edge of screen is on

In Strategy Mode:

Control:

Check: Turn Camera on hitting edge of screen is on

Check: Scroll Camera on hitting edge of screen is on

Camera Focus:

Check: Directly on controlled character is on. This one is bold
because it seems to be the one detail folks seem to miss.

Note: After making the changes, switch back and forth between
Strategy Mode and Character Mode using the * key on the numeric
keypad to make sure your settings were saved.

Camera Speed Settings:

I did a little testing on my own game and made some changes that give
me better speed control over the screen edge scrolling and mousewheel
zoom speeds, which worked well for my system.

Find your nwn2player.ini file in your My Documents\Neverwinter Nights
2 folder.

Make a backup first!

Make a backup of your nwn2player.ini file and store it in a safe
place (simply copy it to another folder). Then, In your
nwn2player.ini file, make the following changes:

Under Character Mode Options

Change

Edge_Turn_Min=3.000000

to

Edge_Turn_Min=1.000000

Under Strategy Mode Options:

Change

Mousewheel_Speed_Min=11.000000

To

Mousewheel_Speed_Min=1.000000

Change

Edge_Turn_Min=3.000000

To

Edge_Turn_Min=1.000000

Once you make those changes, save the file and try it. You will
likely have to go into Options menu and re-adjust your speeds. I hope
this helps.

Erm... yeah... I really do thank you for your effort in posting all that! :) I appreciate it very much.

But, um, I'm not much for technical! I think I will give your first suggestion a go, though, and turn off edge screen scrolling, use arrow keys, and right-mouse button for camera. That's seems more my thing, lol! ;)

Thank you. :)

But first I have to get the darned Update into my non-on-line comp... :(
