When you've accepted the contract at the end of the Welcome to the Family quest, Vicente Valtieri will tell you about your mark. You are to assassinate a pirate named Gaston Tussaud on his ship, the Marie Elena, in the Waterfront district of Imperial City. Unfortunately, there is no possibility of a bonus, but this is only your first contract. There will be many chances to prove yourself in the future, so get this contract fulfilled quickly so you can move on to bigger and better things.

Use the fast-travel feature to make your way to the Imperial City Waterfront district, where you'll find the Marie Elena at the northwest dock. Valtieri had suggested that you smuggle yourself onboard using one of the crates, so that's the route you're going to want to take. The ship's crew members will attack on sight, so you're going to need to exercise some discretion as you make your way around to the only open crate at the very end of the pathway. A message will pop up asking if you'd like to stow yourself inside the crate, so choose "Hide in the Crate" and you'll find yourself onboard in no time.

From the ship's hold, take the ladder up to the mid deck, and then proceed down the hallway until you come across two of the ship's crew arguing about having a Dark Elf woman onboard. If you're feeling powerful, you can take these two out and be on your way. Otherwise, wait until they're done arguing, and then maneuver your way around them as they leave. Either way, right next to the room they were standing in is the ladder up to the Captain's cabin. Take the ladder up to confront the Gaston alone.

Gaston will be sitting at a table at the end of the room, so pump a few arrows in him first if you've got a shot. When he falls, one of his crew will start beating on the door inquiring about this safety. Grab the Captain's Key off Gaston's corpse, loot the chest marked "Gaston Tussaud's Booty," then exit through the back door behind the Captain's table. From this rear entrance, you can either hop down into the water or just use fast-travel to Cheydinhal's east gate before anyone knows you were even there.

Make your way down into the Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary and report your success to Vicente Valtieri. The vampire is pleased by Gaston's death and rewards you with the Black Band for completing the task. Having concluded this quest, you will automatically move on to the Blood of the Damned quest.
