This particular Daedric quest requires you to be at least level 17 to begin it. Once you meet that requirement, pay a visit to Molag Bal's Shrine located a considerable distance to the southeast of Chorrol. When you reach the shrine, tell Amir that you'd like to make an offering to the Tormentor of Men. He'll tell you that Molag Bal will only accept a
Lion Pelt, which may prove to a bit difficult to find. If you already have one in your possession, then you don't have to worry about it. If you don't, though, you'll have to scour the mountains of Cyrodiil for a live one or make a visit to Newt Cave. That specific cave happens to have one for the taking just inside the main level.
Once you have a pelt in your possession, present it to Molag Bal. The Daedric god will speak to you, though his task is a disturbing one. He tells you about a man named Melus Petilius who resides in Brindle Home. Molag describes him as a "good and honorable" man, and this disgusts the Daedric god. Your mission is to bring him to the edge and corrupt him enough that he kills you with a
Cursed Mace that Molag provides for you. The god claims that he will "save your miserable life" after this deed is complete, so you have nothing to lose, save your conscience.
Brindle Home is just a short distance to the southwest of Molag Bal's Shrine. Talk with one of the townsfolk, such as Astante, to learn that Melus "did wonders for the folks" around Brindle Home. He killed off hordes of goblins and even fought a nest of minotaurs singlehandedly. However, while he was off fighting, his wife Vena caught fever and died. Melus has never forgave himself and has swore never to pick up a weapon again. Nobody in the town even sees him anymore. He lives alone in a small home on the southwest edge of town, near where he buried his wife. Apparently he visits her grave every day, and after staking out the location for awhile, you'll find that this routine happens at 10:00am.
It's during this daily visit that Melus is the most vulnerable. Follow him out to the gravesite just to the east of his home and then drop the
Cursed Mace in front of the tombstone. If you strike up a conversation with him, he'll ask that you leave him alone, especially while he's in this "special place." No such luck, pal. Take a swing at him and his emotions will send him into a rage, forcing him to pick up the mace from the ground and beat you to death with it. Of course, you don't actually die. Instead, you're transported to Molag Bal's Shrine when your health dwindles to nothing.
Molag Bal is very pleased, stating "Another man damned, another ruined soul." As a reward, the Daedric god provides you with the
Mace of Molag Bal. If you'd like to have some more fun with this, run back to Petilius and speak with him again. He'll think that he's been damned to torment when you arrive, but you can easily put him out of his misery and relieve him of the
Cursed Mace that was rightfully yours to begin with.
