Did we miss anything during this quest? Is there something we didn't discover? Let us know!
Take the rightmost door into the House of Dementia. In the center of the room, there is a throne. Around 11:00am the Duchess will be in her throne room. If she isn't there, make sure that it is later than 11am and earlier then 11pm. Talking to her will rouse her suspicion that there is a conspiracy set against her to kill her. She asks you to get to the bottom of it. Her first tip is to speak with her torture master, Herdir. Take the rightmost path and follow it until the first right turn, take that corridor and you will eventually be face to face with Herdir.
Herdir will tell you that he had his own way of dealing with those who lie and can get information out of most people. Ask him to follow you and you can then go to any person in Crucible to find out who is at the bottom of this supposed conspiracy. The first person that you can go to in the main Duchess Throne room is Nelrene, who will lead you nowhere, but you can torture her all you want. (What, it's demented isn't it?) After your failed attempt with her, walk out onto the Palace Grounds.
Out here you can find a man named Kithlan. He is a Red Guard that usually resides down the stairs on the left side, but NPCs will often wander, but he will most likely be on the Palace Grounds during the day. He is identifiable by his pompous afro. He will not spill his guts in the beginning, but all you have to do is torture him. He will then send you to Anya, who also roams the Palace grounds. I found her over in the Manic side of the Palace Grounds. However you go by it, find her!
Anya will lead you to the name Ma'zaddha. Ma'zaddha is a Khajiit that is usually frequenting the tavern here in town, having drinks with a lady named Muurine. I wouldn't bother with him now, because he will only give you information if you have "proof" of his involvement in this supposed conspiracy.
During the day you can find a fellow Khajiit, Bhisha, wondering Crucible all day. Find her and get the information out of her stating that Ma'zaddha can be found talking with Nelrene behind his home here in Crucible around midnight. Find some secure place near his home to wait until 12am. When it comes time, follow the green map markers when they are close together. Before getting too close you should sneak and walk towards them until they begin speaking. If you do it well and your sneaking is really good, then you will overhear them saying that Anya has been compromised and that there is in fact a conspiracy to kill Syl. You can either wait until he is in the tavern and confront him, or confront him then and he will tell you he still doesn't know anything. Then tell him that you overheard him and Nelrene and he will invite you to his home next midnight and give you names. Wait until midnight and walk up to his home which is really close to the place you overheard them speaking.
When you enter it seems very calm except that he is lying dead in a pool of his own blood. Rummage through his pockets and get the keys therein. They lead to his bedroom cupboard, which holds proof that Nelrene is involved. Her sword is in there which is enough to convict her. Also lying in the cupboard is a note that explains their plot. Once you have gathered these two things, exit his home and if it is late, wait until morning. Go to the House of Dementia and find Nelrene and present the sword. She will confess and will point you in the direction of the mastermind… Muurine.
You can find Muurine in Sickly Burnice's Tavern during the day, the dueling ring in the evening, and in her home sleeping at night. Speak to her at any of these locations and she will confess if you show her the evidence. She realizes that she has been found. Do nothing more with Muurine, and race to Syl to explain to her. Make sure that it is past 11am to speak with Syl.
Once you have spoken to Syl, she will tell you to follow her to the dungeon. Follow her, or beat her to the punch to find that Muurine is in the central cell (I was wondering what that was for). Syl will speak to her once she makes it to the chamber and she will tell Muurine that she was stupid to think that she could win, and then Syl kills her rather mercilessly. Syl presents you with
Ruin's Edge, a bow that will strike with a random enchantment each time an arrow is plucked from it. If you are a mage or a fighter, this item falls on you wastefully. You can sell it for some gold, or just keep it as a token of your memories here in the Shivering Isles.
