There is a burning man hovering in the air over a grille in the Smoldering Corpse Bar. His skin bubbles and chars, and flames pour from his tormented eyes, yet his expression is far away, almost as if he were reveling in the flames.
Ignus is probably the trickiest companion to add to your party. First, you must obtain the Decanter of Endless Water in the Drowned Nations, after which you need to pay a visit to Nemelee in the Clerk's Ward to learn the Decanter's command word. Once you have these two tasks completed, stop by the Smoldering Corpse Bar in the southeast portion of the Hive and use the Decanter to free Ignus from his fiery torture. Once freed, Ignus will offer to join.

NPC Conversations:
Ignus is the source of several important conversations. Here's a list of the most rewarding dialogue:
- If Reekwind has told you Ignus' story, ask him about it (who taught him, specifically) for 10,000 experience points.
- Once you've learned that you are the one who taught him, quiz him about it to surface an old memory and receive another 10,000 experience points.
- If you have an Intelligence of 16+ or Charisma of 11+, tell Ignus that all you want to talk about are flames and burning when he becomes angry about your questions for 1500 experience points.
- If you are a mage, you can get Ignus to teach you, with the following consequences and benefits:
- Your first lesson will reduce your hit points by 1, but you will receive a +3% bonus to both Fire and Magic Fire Resistance, 6000 experience points, and Ignus' Charm. The charm can be used to learn the spell Seeking Flames.
- Your second lesson will cost you 3 hit points, but you will receive an additional +5% bonus to both Fire and Magic Fire Resistance, 12,000 experience points, and Ignus' Hand. The hand can be used to learn the spell Infernal Orb.
- If you have your eyeball (from Barkis in the Smoldering Corpse Bar), you can ask him for a third lesson. This will cost you 2 more hit points, but you'll receive an additional +3% bonus to both Fire and Magic Fire Resistance, 12,000 experience points, and Ignus' Eye. The eye can be used to learn the spell Ignus' Terror.
- If you have your intestines (from Marta in the Buried Village), you can ask him for a fourth lesson. There won't be any suffering this time, but you'll receive 24,000 experience points and Ignus' Innards. The innards can be used to learn the spell Infernal Shield.
