Developer of Award Winning Dark Age of Camelot to utilize version 4.2 of NetImmerse 3D engine in future product enhancements
FAIRFAX, VA – MARCH 19th, 2002 – Mythic Entertainment (www.mythicentertainment.com), creator of the award winning massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) Dark Age of Camelot, today announced its plans to utilize version 4.2 of the NetImmerse 3D engine from Numerical Design Limited (NDL), in order to further enhance player experience. Dark Age of Camelot is developed by Mythic Entertainment and co-published with Abandon Entertainment (www.abandonent.com).
Dark Age of Camelot, the fastest growing MMORPG ever in the U.S. and Europe, has already received critical acclaim for its 3D graphics, utilizing 3.0 of the NDL engine. In its review of the game, GameSpy said: “The graphics used for the spell effects are some of the best seen in any MMORPG to date,” and “The NetImmerse engine used for Dark Age of Camelot is amazing.” Mythic Entertainment now plans to take 3D graphics further with the advanced rendering features of the latest NDL engine. NetImmerse 4.2’s performance will allow many characters on screen at once, which is critical for massively multi-player online games.
"We are delighted to announce our plans to utilize the advanced graphic features of the latest NDL engine as part of our continued commitment to the player experience we’ve created in Dark Age of Camelot," said Rob Denton, Chief Technical Officer at Mythic Entertainment. “Our intention has always been to make Dark Age of Camelot the leading MMORPG on the market. These graphic enhancements will ensure that our players have the very best visual experience while enjoying an unparalleled online game play.”
"Dark Age of Camelot is one of the most graphically rich and complex MMORPGs ever released," said John Austin, President of NDL. "We are extremely pleased that we can continue to be a part of the game's success."
Dark Age of Camelot was recently recognized with multiple Online Game of the Year awards. The Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences presented the game with the Massive Multiplayer/Persistent World Game of the Year. It also received the Online Game of the Year award from the editors of Computer Gaming World and Computer Games magazines.
