If you gave up on NWN because of the campaign of the original game, you should find what was missing in Shadows of Undrentide. Additionally, the variety in the modules available is very likely to expand greatly with all the new goodies available to authors. The bottom line is that Shadows of Undrentide does what a good expansion should: expands upon what made the original game great without feeling like recycled material.
