Hasbro's decision left Interplay, BioWare and SSI abandoned. SSI, along with developer Stormfront Studios, has had great difficulty preparing Pool of Radiance - Ruins of Myth Drannor for release because of the business woes experienced by The Learning Company and its parent company. While that game was supposed to be released concurrently with the launch of the 3rd Edition of D&D, it will likely be at least a year late, and may suffer an even worse fate, even though the game itself has always looked very promising. Interplay retains the rights to produce future D&D games (including Neverwinter Nights), but its license is unlikely to be renewed when it finally expires (some time in the next few years). While SSI retained the right to make a sequel to Pool of Radiance, that right is also in doubt, given the production delays and other problems that game's development has faced.
