All ethnic issues aside, Jade Empire manages to put forth an tight, excellently paced story and wrap it into a game that doesn't tarnish the story's glory too much. However, if you're waiting for the Xbox to get a true RPG, well, you need to keep waiting. This is about as action oriented as it gets.
The second is at ActionTrip with an overall score of 91/100:
As I've said before, Bioware is just trying something new. They're expanding, and they've done a very good job with this foray into new ideas. I really can't complain about any of it, as I really do enjoy this game, but I am going to make one little proviso in my recommendation for this game. Come into it with an open mind. If you're expecting Knights of the Old Republic, or Baldur's Gate, or Neverwinter Nights, but with ancient magical Chinese warriors, you've come to the wrong place. This is a very different game. But a very good one.
The third is at InsidePulse with an overall score of 7/10:
Jade Empire is a good game. But that's all it is. Rent it, and play through it. If it's your cup of tea, then for sure buy it, and especially the LE version if you're into the extras and want to see the character you can only play as in that version. It's better than other games that are similar to it like Fable, but other games like Dark Alliance 2 provide a better action RPG experience, and at half the cost. Like I said at the beginning, you can look at Jade Empire as very good 3D action game with a 2D vertical scrolling shooter mixed in, or an average RPG game with a 2D vertical scrolling shooter mixed in. Worth checking out, but you won't find any challenges hidden within.
And the fourth is at Globe Technology with an overall score of 4.5/5:
Jade Empire scores because it takes a good, under-represented setting, mixes it up with a new improved way of fighting, and everything we've come to expect from BioWare games: humour, imagination, fine music and graphics, and quality gameplay. Hard to believe, but in Jade Empire, they've outdone themselves again.
