There will be sixteen races and twenty-four different classes. As players advance in level they will make branching decisions that will effect how they advance through the 50 character levels. Players will begin by picking from one of four archetypes: Artisan, Fighter, Priest, and Mage. Each of those choices has several classes available, which in turn contain two branches. For example, the Artisan archetype is good for creating weapons, armor, and using relics. An Artisan can become either a builder, who focuses on creating goods like furniture and clothing, or a scholar, who focuses on making sense of relics and enchanting items. The two types of builder are the Smith and Crafter. The former makes weapons and armor, while the latter creates cloth and wooden products, including home furnishings. When it comes to Mages, Summoners are Mages who can infuse magic into other beings in Norrath. The Conjurer creates elemental entities from fire, air, earth, and water while the Necromancer can summon the dead. All of the standard role-playing game classes are available, but there are plenty of new ones to chose from, as well.
