There is a lot to love about Jade Empire and we're not limiting our praise to its immersive and imaginative world or the wonderful art direction. The characters are colorful and it boasts what we consider the most innovative feature in the game: the fantastically intuitive combat system. No matter how old the formula, Jade Empire will completely suck you in.
The second is at Tom's Hardware with no overall score:
Over time your character will acquire new styles, each with its own unique advantage. Magic styles can hurl fireballs across the screen or summon dragons to engage in combat on your behalf. Weapon styles can be devastating and are useful for fighting large groups of enemies. Set up styles use Chi to slow down or otherwise weaken opponents at which time it is best to switch to a more destructive style and take them out. If you can set an enemy up and then switch quickly to a more destructive style then you'll be rewarded with spectacular kills involving showers of blood and body parts. Sometimes you'll have to choose a style based on the type of enemy that you're facing: demons are immune to magic and ghosts are immune to weapons. Switching styles on the fly using the D-pad is a very powerful tool that forms the heart of Jade Empire's combat system.
And the third is at Deeko with an overall score of 9.5/10:
Jade Empire has restored my hope in a genre that I thought was riddled with lackluster offerings and ho-hum gameplay. I just felt the genre had very little left to give and then Bioware, a development studio whose ambitions know's no bounds, proves me wrong. Once again they have set the bar very high and very few can keep up. Hopefully this leap in the right direction will lead to better and more engaging action/adventure RPG's. Jade Empire is a fantastic journey into a mythical world that will keep gamers occupied for hours. With it's captivating plot line, intelligent writing, eye popping visuals, haunting soundtrack, and genius battle system Jade Empire is a model for stellar game design. The guys at Bioware just don't know how to make bad games, lets hope it stays that way. It would be a crime to miss out on this obvious Game of the Year candidate.
