So we aren't breaking any new ground, but it's simple and works well. kudos. All in all it took me about 10 minutes to get my brand new character just the way I wanted then pick a name and jump right in.
The new player experience while not terribly memorable is pretty straightforward. The important people show up on your mini-map in different icons, and the areas where you will find your monsters to kill show up as a red fog on the map/mini-map. There are icons floating over the NPC's heads who want to talk to you and give you quests and phat lewts. As a veteran MMO'er it took about 5 minutes to get used to everything (controls are pretty standard as well), but for a newer player, the quest givers are very helpful and it is almost impossible to die until about level 4.
A few hours in I had learned all about realm vs. realm combat (which makes your home towns better or worse), player vs. player combat, settings automated macros and tactics, using my various abilities, how to level, where all the cool kids hang out, as well as having an amazing time. There is a bit of an information overflow with the sheer amount of lore and background (it has always been a strongpoint for Warhammer and 40K) and I was really impressed by how smoothly they have transferred that feel over into an MMO without bogging down new players who just wanna login and get to the action.
