You'll occasionally come across floating items, characters sliding across the room with their animations not working properly, clipping issues and the occasional moment of being face to face with a really low quality texture, but you'll forgive every problem and flaw because you're still having so much fun.
Even both moments where you'll have to reassign your weapons to the quick select you've become used to won't annoy you too much. In fact, the only real flaw with the game is because the complex and multi levelled areas are so difficult to navigate using your map when you are first discovering them. The game concludes with a satisfying outcome, but really doesn't make much of a big deal of your course through the game and final decisions on what to do, and unless you've got a save before the unexpected point of no return, you'll have to start again to explore more of the world. Of course that's the beauty of the game. You'll want to.
Gamer 2.0 goes with a 9.6/10:
So what you have here with Fallout 3 is a great addition to the series, even if you are a die-hard fan of Black Isle Studios' work with the previous Fallout titles. It has some slight faults, but the quality of the rest of the package more than makes up for it all. If you haven't already, go pick this up. It's a great addition to this season's line up.
HonestGamers goes with a perfect 10/10:
Fallout 3 offers up a haunting and bleak world that's utterly captivating to explore. A diverse, compelling and astonishing masterpiece.
Thunderbolt goes with a perfect 10/10:
Fallout 3 presents the DC Wasteland as a tangible place, with landmarks, characters, and history, and in doing so the game represents a new direction for the franchise, one that relies less on linear storytelling and more on immersion, and while this re-imaging may be a bitter pill for old-school Fallout fanatics, those willing to let the series explore new horizons will come away satisfied. I hesitate to say, at this early stage, that this is actually a better game than either Fallout 1 or 2, but it very well may be; at the least, it is game-of-the-year material.
Kombo goes with a 9.5/10:
Fallout 3 is an incredibly well-done 3D adaptation of Interplay's cherished series. It is not a flawless title by any means, but it is a remarkable one. Bethesda's marriage of the RPG and FPS genres is a triumphant success, and it makes Fallout 3 a unique experience despite its similarities to Bethesda's past releases. Further, this open-ended adventure through a post-apocalyptic wasteland is simply captivating. You'll easily get sucked into the Capital Wasteland, and you'll want to explore every last bit of it before you put the controller down.
This is one of the best games of this generation, and a must-have for anyone with the slightest bit of interest in the post-apocalyptic genre.
RPGamer goes with a perfect 5/5:
Where Oblivion used an endless stream of quests to force the exploration of every nook and cranny, Fallout 3 crafts an addicting gameplay experience driven more by its setting and the player's curiosity; it is so interesting on its own that the non-stop tasks in Oblivion are genuinely not necessary here. This is easily one of the best RPGs ever created, a serious contender for Game of the Year awards from the gaming media, and a title with which all video game fans owe it to themselves to spend some time. It is hard to put down and will not disappoint.
And WonderwallWeb goes with a 9.9/10:
Fallout 3 is a huge game, offering in excess of 80hrs game play and even then you would not have scratched the surface, it's great to know that a game this big can still fit on a DVD disc and I look forward to finalising this epic game. Oblivion was one of the best games on the Xbox 360, well its time to move over as this is everything and lots more. A must have for your collection.
