GameSpot gives it an 8.5/10:
The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned is a nicely distilled slice of Borderlands that bodes well for future DLC potential. The dramatic moments that are fairly strung out in the main game happen with invigorating regularity. And the flashes of comedy are much more frequent, giving the action a lively, entertaining vibe. From voice recorders chronicling the exploits of unsuccessful zombie hunters, to the casually maniacal hilarity of Dr. Ned, to heartbreaking Claptrap-on-Claptrap violence, The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned delivers the game's distinctive humor even better than the original and has all the great gunplay and satisfying loot to boot. If you've got any kind of desire to seek out further adventures on Pandora, you should definitely pay the Zombie Island a visit.
Giant Bomb gives it a 4/5:
The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned is a solid addition for anyone who wants more Borderlands, but the lack of additional items or further opportunities for character building feel like a missed opportunity that could have given this content a lasting effect. Without any of that, you're really just paying $10 to tack an additional few hours of content onto an already-long game. As someone who played the heck out of Borderlands and desperately wants more, that's totally fine with me. But if you've already moved on and want something with a little more substance, this might not be the DLC for you.
Eurogamer gives it an 8/10:
Whatever the time of year, then, Halloween and Borderlands is a great match, and if this is the way the game's DLC is going to unfold, I'd happily have a dozen of these quirky, colourful offshoots to plough through. Zombies were never going to let Gearbox down too badly, of course, but I left Doctor Ned's island with the feeling that somebody had taken real care over the whole experience, crafting the story with love and wit.
GamingBolt gives it a 4.0/10:
Aside from the environment there is nothing new in this DLC. No new weapons, no new items, no new level cap, it's the same Borderlands in a much more boring place than before. Along with a completion time of four hours or less for experienced players who complete all side missions, this package feels very overpriced and is a waste for those who still enjoy playing the main game. Hopefully future DLC will be more fulfilling, but this is one you will definitely want to skip.
MSXbox-World gives it an 8/10:
With a dark and gritty seasonal feel to the level design, an endless stream of undead cannon fodder and a mad Dr. You can't go wrong with this DLC. For fans looking for an additional layer of gaming from their Borderlands experience, should be pleased with the 800 point offering despite a lack of new items. That said, if you've not got mates buying the content, then be prepared to play online with randoms, which might not always be favourable. The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned is enjoyable and a welcome dlc pack for the game and well worth the investment considering what's on offer.
And then there's a "ten minute taste" on Destructoid.
