To level and grow in Heroes of Neverwinter you are required to do exactly what you might expect, traverse through dungeons and defeat the monsters within for loot and fame. The combat in the game is turn based and players may make one movement (within a limited area), use one attack skill, and use items (not limited) with each turn; taking turns with the enemy until one side has been completely wiped out.
The combat is very easy to pick up, and players can choose the difficulty of the dungeon they are visiting. Liquid Entertainment hasn't left out the hardcore D&D fans however, the combat system goes very deep and hard modes provide a challenge for even the most adept tactician. There will be a total of 45 dungeons on launch, with more added regularly. If players defeat all the dungeons, or just want to try something a bit different then the game offers a Dungeon Creator for player's level 10 and above. Using the Dungeon Creator players can create their own dungeons to test other players, receiving rewards for everyone who visits.

After arriving in Neverwinter the game truly begins. Neverwinter acts as your base of operations as you play; it includes your home, a weapons shop, a magic shop, a tavern, a guild hall, and a message board. The weapons shop and magic shop are pretty straightforward as places where you can spend the coin you earn to buy better gear and consumables, the guild hall does not come into play until level 10, but it is the place a player can go to build dungeons/adventures of their own. The tavern is a place to go to recruit other players/ NPCs for your party and includes a small shop for some additional consumable items. Your home displays all your badges and accomplishments and includes a magic chest that once per days allows a player to randomly receive an item.
To go on an adventure one uses the message board which then shows the player an overhead map of the areas around Neverwinter. Each map area includes a detailed map and the adventures available. More or less, adventures will be available depending on the level of the character as well as key items they may have from previous adventures. Each adventure has three difficulty levels. I found the easy levels to be extremely easy, but the curve is definitely exponential with the hardest level being very challenging. Probably, the most exciting part of the game is that each adventure is played on a 3D digital board. Turns are taken between monsters and players with each moving and performing actions according to their abilities. Like in the table top game initiative, movement, and order of actions all comes into the play.
