Not discounting the project leads Dene and Simon Carter from the project, the influence of Peter Molyneux's back catalogue is difficult to avoid. Indeed, the Carters were part of Bullfrog too, and helped produce games like Dungeon Keeper where the central crux of the game was the players' morality, though that title allowed only deliciously evil acts of destruction. Lionhead Studios' Black & White, another game that did its time in development purgatory, was wholly about the divide between Good and Evil it was even poeticised for the title. Digressions aside, all this gaming history bodes very well for Fable. Those at Lionhead and Big Blue Box have experience in creating challenging, imaginative games focussing on ethics, and it's difficult to say how Fable will fail to be either of these two things.
Peter Molyneux has a habit of envisioning games that almost wilfully self-hype. We're at the stage where it's difficult to tell whether it'll succeed, but easy to wax lyrical about the purported gameplay. If there's any justice in the world, Fable will be a ground-breaking classic. Set sail for September*, when we'll get to sample this tale for ourselves.
