Are games getting easier?
It's a legitimate question that has been asked by many old school gamers over the past few years, and sadly the answer seems to be (Yes!) With each new release, games seem to be getting dumbed down more and more, to the point where (Press X to win!) almost sounds like work.
Take the most recent Prince of Persia game. Yes, it was beautiful and fun, but a wheelchair-bound burn victim could play it with his mouth and beat it! It was that easy, you barely needed to think. or even look at the screen! Just push the (jump) key at equal intervals. All the acrobatics felt more like Dance Dance Revolution on a keyboard then a challenging puzzle game with combat.
Then we go to the opposite end of things: The Witcher. An awesome game, but many people deemed it (too complicated). Why? Because it had two different sword types one for humans, one for monsters and then three different styles within them: fast, strong and group style? Maybe it's the part where you actually need to read books or talk to people in order to learn about plants and animals parts, which you can then collect to make into potions that are useful in battle? OMG CONFUSING! FOUR BUTTONZ ONLY PLZ! GIB ME ITEMZ WUG!
When did gamers; the (brains) of society, become so thick? Are we all degenerating into the computer equivalent of football players? How did this come about, and why? Perhaps it was about the same time internet gaming took off, and any old jock could pick up a mouse, pwn a few actual people, and think he's 1337est player on the webz?
