PopMatters concludes with a 7/10:
Nevertheless, this is a solidly designed simulation. In particular, the idea of having to manage your (heroes) through what amounts to bribery makes this a compelling ludic satire of the romance of heroism and loyalty usually present in more fantastic stories and games. Through the game mechanics themselves, Majesty 2 suggests that maybe we should consider myths about heroes and monsters a little more pragmatically. Our heroes may be more motivated by booty than we might like to admit.
Crispy Gamer slaps the game with a "Try It":
Majesty 2 is more remake than sequel. This is completely understandable from the business side of things. And since it has been so long, there is no real risk in just sticking to the formula. But sometimes a king wants more.
Game Debate goes with a 9/10:
Once you've finally finished the campaign, which takes a good few hours even if you're a strategy maestro, there's still some other modes to keep you entertained. A number of standalone single-player missions can be played out, which are just as strong as the campaign's quests, and you can play a multiplayer versus match with up to three other players over a LAN or the interwebs. Overall, there's a lot of content here for your hard-earned pounds.
IncGamers deems the game worthy of an 8.8/10:
The first missions in the campaign are very easy, too easy perhaps, as the transition to advanced is quite a shock to the system. I found myself having to restart missions regularly after realising I'd made bad choices at the start. The AI is frustrating sometimes, especially when expensive heroes get themselves killed or refuse to respond to your flags. But on the whole, it's an enjoyable game and one that I can see myself replaying, even without the freestyle option. I'm holding on to the original though, which still remains one of my all-time favourites.
Bright Hub arrives at a 4/5:
First things first, I do recommend this game. It's a good fantasy RTS that newcomers will probably like. It's a good new game, it's interesting, and it's pretty cool. There's not really anything else like it. There's a certain joy to people watching and seeing your rookies turn into hardened veterans. That said, I just feel like they dropped a lot of the interesting charm from Majesty for some pretty minor improvements. 1 step forward and 3 steps back.
And zConnection doles out an 86%:
Majesty 2, overall, is a great game; a worthy sequel of the first Majesty and a good entry point for new players who don't want to hunt down a copy of the 2000 original. With charming visuals, strategic gameplay and an empowering soundtrack, Majesty 2 is definitely recommended to fans of the strategy and RPG genres.
