Not everyone was happy when Bethesda (best known for the Elder Scrolls RPG series) picked up the moribund Fallout property and abandoned its traditional isometric perspective for what was being called "Oblivion with guns" (as if that was bad thing). The resulting game though, has silenced all but the game's most die-hard critics. Everything about Fallout 3, from the amazingly designed world to the haunting score to the slow-motion head explosions of the VATS system is top-notch. Fallout 3 is less a game to be played or a problem to be solved than an entire universe to be explored. Put simply, if there is one game all 360 owners must have in their library, this is it.

The bulk of my enjoyment of Fallout 3 came from simply soaking in the expansive, exquisite desolation. So much of my time has been spent scavenging relics from a bygone utopia that I feel like Fallout 3 provides not just a single world to explore, but also paints a brilliant portrait of the world after an apocalypse.
