1 - Dogmeat
When you first arrive in the scrapyard, you'll witness a handful of raiders attacking a scavenger and a dog named Dogmeat. The scavenger will die quickly, but Dogmeat can take of itself, and it'll kill the raiders with no problem at all (it might even finish the battle before you can get there). Afterwards, when you approach Dogmeat, a conversation will start up, and you'll be able to recruit it for your party.
Dogmeat is a nice companion because it won't care what you do or what your karma is, but it's also annoying because it can't really be controlled, and it'll often get in the way of your attacks. If you tire of having Dogmeat around, then you can send it to Vault 101 to wait for you.
2 - John's Treasure Box
You'll find a locked box inside a bus shell here (if you have trouble finding the bus shell, it's located next to a red train car). Inside the box you'll find three skill books:
Grognak the Barbarian,
Guns and Bullets, and
U.S. Army: 30 Handy Flamethrower Recipes.
Note: During your travels, you might stumble upon a dead wastelander carrying a note describing the location of this box. The dead wastelander usually shows up near the Super-Duper Mart.
3 - Scrapyard Office
If you select the Contract Killer perk, then this is where you'll talk to Daniel Littlehorn to turn in ears. If you don't have the perk, then you won't be able to enter the office, or even see the door.
