you guys are so over my head... - I'm not really very far along in the game yet - but it is certainly starting to get carnage-tastic thanks to my little firey friends. Yikes, I haven't even considered mods (let alone figured out what in blazes they are in the first place,) or how to 'do' or ...

Sadly enough, I've found that most battles (even some of the most challenging ones) in BG2 can be won without your party firing a single shot or taking a single swipe of the sword...

What I mean is that it would be really convenient at this particular time if one of my priests could learn free action and lesser restoration.

So does that mean that when my characters gain a level (priests) it's just a matter of luck which spells they learn? Is there a temple Amnoen/Jaheira/etc... can go to in order to pray for other spells?

I have the BG2 box set (no manual in this one) and I wanted to know how priests gain spells - mages get them from scrolls - but how does jaheira, for example, learn new spells?

Weapons for J.

You guys probably know this already but Ken Egervari, someone who seems to know what they are talking about put together a guide for his tips on the best equipment for each NPC -

For Jaheira's weapons he says (though most of these are only available later in the game):

I haven't checked the game but as far as I know a spear should definitely be a single-handed weapon so shields should be ok - if this were not possible the romans wouldn't have lasted nearly as long as they did -

phalanx of shields + lots of spears = piles of dead 'barbarians'

Right now I'm playing a straight-up fighter - wanted to keep it simple as it's actually my first time through BG2

My NPC's are:

Amnomen
Aerie
Nalia

- I'm not overly happy with this setup but I'm at a level where priest spells (healing) and mage spells make a big ...

Given the importance of strategy to the game - which NPC's make the best staple party members (keeping in mind personality conflicts etc)?

Unfortunately, I don't really understand what you just said - as I said, I'm only a few steps from thinking of computers as 'magic boxes'.

It would be nice to get the pantaloons though - apparently the magical items that you eventually get for them are ridiculous.
