I hoped the problem was limited to the 9600, so I traded it for a 9800pro. Same deal. It wasn't that bad though, and I just played through. The 9800 is doing great elsewhere in the game, even on the Dune Sea on Tatooine. If I go back to Dantooine, I'll try the settings recommended.

Unfortunately, I've got the patch. I don't know why the card is so bad on Dantooine.

I've played the game set on moderate graphics levels, high graphics, 1024x , shadows, grass, AAx2, anistropy x 2, with good results on my P4 2.4, 766mbram, ATI 9600 xt 256mb UNTIL I got to Dantooine, and I can't set the levels low enough. I think I got it figured out. Seems like it could be a little clearer tho, especially as some items modify characteristics that are not seen until you scroll down on the item.
