Awesome Galuf! That explains it totally. I wasn't aware that I had to put a spell from the specialized scholl in the extra slot - must be a 3.5 rule . Thanks again.

I was hoping someone could help me with a small problem I am having.

When I go to the spell mem screen for my wizard , there is a gold field under the empty spell slots. I can't seem to place a spell in that particular slot unless the spell is also gold. I have no idea why a spell is gold or not ...
