thats odd, i got through that quest on my first try...and the guns proved useless, they took too long to kill, and i had quite an arsenal. So my Malkavian proceded with the Fire Ax to hack his way thorough. Just ignore and avoid the Zombies trying to get you, and hack anything near the gates ...
