Rumor has it there's an old drunken sailor wandering around Blackroot who has some strange tales. I've never come across him . . . and I have scoured the place. Where is he? Are there special conditions that trigger his appearance? Should I care?!!? )

I have returned from Blackroot with the King's taxes. He says there is another matter but then won't give it to me . . . he just says maybe later. What am I lacking? Not enough Persuasion? (I have 2 points there + apprentice). Not "Good" enough? (I'm 55 +/-). Level? (I'm a 12).

Any ideas?

I cannot seem to find a pass through the mountains to go west to K'na Tha. Am I just missing it or is there some "secret" I have not uncovered?

As an experiment I dropped Smaug and added Magnus (after saving first so I can revert) and it looks like Smaug will just wait where I left him forever?!?!? Is that so?

If that's true then that's interesting . . . If I leave Smaug and pick up Magnus for a while to exploit some of Magnus' strengths ...

Thanks . . . that's encouraging . . . at the moment I might stick with Smaug (sp?) because of his carrying capacity . . . he's pretty strong and seems to help out in combat. Magnus otoh has more skills, and even a couple of schematics.

Any opinion on which might be the better party meber at this ...

I am in Tarant (sp?) and I am speaking with the dwarf outside schuyler's place and he'd like to join my party but I am only allowed TWO (2) party members? Is that right? Anything increase the number of party members you can have? If not should I drop the ork I picked up in the first town (Smog?) or ...

Whew! Thanks! I am just starting Arcanum (it having been recommended by a friend almost 2 years ago) and I am observing this is a game where certain actions or mis-actions can break or "ruin" certain paths so I am trying to be reeeeeal careful.

I've answered my own question again. I have found you CAN bash barrels and chests but they take damage . . . 100 , 200, 70 etc . . . I have also observed that using an AX results in no damage to the weapon, whereas a sword or something lighter will be damaged, possibly beyond repair, if you use it ...

Throughout the game there are "locked" barrels, cans, etc . . . if this were Diablo I'd smash them with a sword . . . I can understand locked chests needing a lock-pick . . . but how do you get into locked barrels and other misc objects?

also . . . I have no Lockpicking skill, but Virgil does ...

I accepted the Blackroot taxes quest . . . but when I tried to move to Blackroot on the world map I was told my path was blocked. I then ventured "by land" to the BRIDGE on the world map, and then I could venture to Blackroot.

Am I ok? Did I mess anything up? Should I have had a ship?

Nevermind - on my next character upgrade I added a point to Persuasion and that resolved the quest.

I have completed the Gladys-Archibald steps but Archibald is not giving me the ring to return to Gladys. Here's what I did:

1)met Gladys and learned of ring
2)found Archy and talked and left when he threatened
3)Spoke to Archy's son and learned of ring story
4)Returned to Archy and told him I ...
