Sounds like a bug. Where did you ask her? At what point in the game? It should go as follows:

She asks to be trained, and you agree. Cuts to Kreia saying something about it ending and then "Betrayal", at which point it cuts to Atris who hears it and she mentions to the other Handmaidens ...

For Batu, you'll need to talk to Duros at the counter. Also, you'll need either a persuade of 6 or Kreia in your party when you ask about it. You'll also have to offer a 25 credit bribe.
