All right, this is a discussion I wanted to avoid. I'm new on this board and don't want to be tarred and feathered out. But the gauntlet has been thrown down and a gentleman needs to defend his honour.

Reasons I like BGI better than BGII:

1. More NPC's and thus more combinations possible. The best ...

The Island-trick can be done with even the lowest level party. Be sure to store up on projectiles. Go to Drizzt's Area. Help him kill the gnolls. Next move your party to the most southern tip of the island in the lake, north of Drizzt (you can reach the island from ...

I'm going to try an all-women party next:

- Me Fighter
- Shar-teel
- Viconia
- Jaheira
- Safana
- Imoen (dual to mage)

I like different parties but objectively the best clearly is:

- Me-Fighter (the tank)
- Imoen (Dual-classed to mage)
- Kivan (the scout)
- Coran (the thief: detect traps/pick locks)
- Jaheira or Branwen (healer/magic)
- Garrick (identify/magic/pickpocket)

I enjoyed IWD very much, though. It must be the wargamer in me.

True, there's not much in the story-line. That doesn't make it "hack and slash". The fun was in trying differentely composed parties and, most of all, in inventing and perfecting new tactics for the different battles.

And no boring ...

I believe level 16 ranger. But that's not why he's so hard to kill. It's all the resistances.

Even a high level party can't beat Drizzt in a "fair" fight, that is without summening armies of monters or the "island-trick".

I'm with you on Imperialism I and II. I'd guess they were quite a gamble as well. And what about the succes of Europa Universalis? When I saw it first anounced I thought Paradox was nuts converting an extremely complex historical boardgame, which few people bought and even fewer ever got to play, to ...

Xandax, quite true that dual-classing can make for a week character for some time. That's why I alwaus dual-class a.s.a.p., that is at level 2. I think, if you want your own character to be a mage, you should always start out as a fighter (2 points in bows and two in long swords). Dual-class at ...

No, the loss of the Tome doens't mean you're doomed. The High Priestess of Umberlee has the scroll of geas you need for the quest. If she doesn't give the scroll voluntary you could just kill her. No reputation penalties.
I think you should kill her anyway: she shouldn't be rude to the magnificent ...

What I like about Viconia is this language I don't understand. Do you know what she's saying? Well, I have my own idea about what she's saying to me. It's, of course, possible that she's saying these thing only to me and to none of you guys.

Best weapons by far are "large swords", especially if you're going to kill Drizzt (which you should).
Best long range weapons are, of course, bows.

If you've been playing BGII you might have the inclination to rely to much on mages. Don't. One mage is sufficient. Best mage is Imoen if you dual ...

You shouldn't, but you could. Running around for days in the Ulcaster dungeon (dungeonette)can give you hundreds of dreadwolves to kill.

But it's definitly not necessary to Cap before BG. Plenty of XP inside the city before you have to fight the big battles.
