somebody said that BG1 was not the game for multiclass

Post by Dangerous10K »

well i dont see why not

when i cap im gonna be a

level 7 mage/level 7 cleric

if your a normal person you would be
fighter level 9
paladin/ranger level 9
thief/bard level 11
wizard level 10
cleric level 9
druid level 11

i really dont think this is that huge of a difference and im not suffereing at all w/my party

besides that w/the insane amount of experience in baldurs gate 2 i should be pretty forumable foe by the end of that especially w/the just downright insane cap of throne of baul

Sorcery and Shadow together as one, the arcane and the dark united. Through our knowledge and skill none can stand against us. We are as one, infallible and invincible. The Shadow Mages.

Your lvl. is wrong
a pure class can reach:
fighter/paladin/ranger level 8
thief/bard level 10
wizard level 9
cleric level 8
druid level 10

IMO the game is okay for multiclasses, but not for dual-class.
This is my oppinion because the gaining of XP are very slow.
If you dual you'll play a great part of the game with a relative weak character and will only be able to use it's potential for a small part of the game.

BG2 is better on multi and dual-class' due to the high XP.cap and the ease of gaining of XP wich is practically thrown at you :)

Xandax, quite true that dual-classing can make for a week character for some time. That's why I alwaus dual-class a.s.a.p., that is at level 2. I think, if you want your own character to be a mage, you should always start out as a fighter (2 points in bows and two in long swords). Dual-class at level 2 and when the mage reaches level 3 you have mage that can wear helmets, wield a sword and shoot a longbow (at specialised level), without impairing his magic abilities. You can even wear armour if you're not planning to use magic. This makes for a great mage that's only 2000 XP behind a mage that started out as one. So: never ever start out as a mage. Same thing with thief or cleric. Just make sure you have the right stats to dual-class!

That's why Imoen is the best NPC-mage in the game: she can use a bow and wear light armour.

That's why I think dual-classing is better in BGI or IWD. If you're dual-classing at level 8 you have to wait till level 9 in the second class before you can use the first class. That's a long time!

The amount of experience needed to gain the next level increases exponentially for the first 6 or so levels. For that reason, I would say BG1 is quite the game for dual/multiclassing. Your buddy may go from level 5 to level 7 while you go from level 5 in one class to level 6 in another :)
If you dual you'll play a great part of the game with a relative weak character and will only be able to use it's potential for a small part of the game.
Since anyone that likes to do most of the quests is capped waaay before the end of the game, I don't think the part in which you regain your inactive abilities to be that "small".
Imoen is the best NPC-mage in the game: she can use a bow and wear light armour.
Not to mention a great AC (for a Mage), loads of Thief skills and extra Hit Points. She can even dual to Specialist Mage and totally out-classes all the other NPC Mages.
If you're dual-classing at level 8 you have to wait till level 9 in the second class before you can use the first class. That's a long time!
Not that long at all... Remember: your buddies are relatively high level and will rake in the XP for you. Killing one really big monster can gain you several levels.

i was gonna start as a cleric then dual to a mage but i decided not to
