after getting the password from dellinger in jail i am still not able to enter the slum district the game will not give me the option mr gibbs keeps asking for the password

mr gribbs is the correct door that i need to give this password to and thank you for any and all advice......

so in order for me to use this password i have to belong to a guild (thieves) and start the whole game over? man i have already spent hours building my strength, vitality, honor, etc up to go back into the catacombes ....been there once already good lord...there has got to be an easier way than ...

i left the jail and dellinger gave me the password now what? who am i supposed to give the password to? i go to mr. gribbs and nothing seems to happen he just keeps asking what the password is?
