my guess is it wasnt a wife in bowerstone... bowerstone is a unique case in the game as it actually blocks any hostile magic / weapons. I dont beleive it's possible to actually kill anything in bowerstone.

you cannot get the ranok axe, nor do you get the 15k dowry if you turn in lady grey and become mayor. You do however get access to the katana and key in LG's house. Neither resolution to the lady grey issue gives any alignment modifier despite marrying lady grey obviusly being the more evil route.
