Yes, DOSbox will work, at least on some systems. Better still is the Exult system, which was finished last year, and two years after this thread was started. :D I strongly recommend Exult for Ultima 7.

Meanwhile, Ultima V has been redone as an extremely large mod using Dungeon Siege. I ...

Just in case anyone still looks at this thread I am currently playing U7 through DOSBox for Windows. The only "messing around" is in the DOSBox config file to switch EMS from true to false (IIRC), and it just works!!

Great game, last played it over 10 years ago!
Feel free to disagree
Go on then I will :)

Basically it just doesn't make sense, why release a game when it is unfinished? That is almost guaranteed to hit sales of that title and also reduce the standing of the developer and the other parties involved, and accountants more ...

In no particular order:

Ultima 7
Morrowind
Eye of the Beholder
Baldurs Gate

They were all groundbreaking in their own way and time, and were games that I got totally absorbed in.

Only Morrowind of the above is still worth playing now, but that is more to do with technology than gameplay or ...

I enjoy RPG's more than any other type because you have to use your brain to play them, they are more than just games and involve planning/organisation/principals/intelligence to just play them at a low level.

This doesn't apply to all RPG's, for instance Diablo/Dungeon Siege which are FPS's first ...

Release date - for the English version best current estimate looks like May 2006 is planned but will probably be later

Language - There will definitely be an English version, making this version will cost them only around 5%to 10% of the total budget, yet it will sell alot more than the German ...

Release Date?

I have had a look at the official site of this game and it looks very intriguing.

However, I cannot find anywhere which states when the game is planned for release - does anyone know?

Official site says "Early 2006", Take 2 officially said the delay was to their financial quarter which starts February 2006, so at least another 2 months to wait.

As regards Accountants ruling the industry it just isn't true, delays will be caused by budgeting constraints and/or software ...
Just the final trial is bugged. The bug occurs anywhere a door closes and you must kill all the creatures for the doors to reopen. If you save and reload, the game 'forgets' to open the door. D
Thanks for that, still worth highlighting though as this bug did cost me an hour ...

As you are after opinions I'll give you mine :)

I held off buying this game given the reviews, and when I finally relented it was after checking forums such as these to see the extent of the problems and after 1.3 was released.

I am really enjoying the game, it is a tough RPG (thankfully - I'm ...

Doesn't saving your game during that trial break the quest? I am sure I read that somewhere although it could just be saving in the final part with the fire pillars (which I experienced :( )
