Slight correction to my earlier post: skill ranks above 10 only count towards your next level between the time you gain your tenth rank in major skills and the time you actually rest to gain your level.

Example: Since my last level up, I've gained 3 ranks in Block, 4 in Blade, and 2 in ...

You get the +5 in an attribute by increasing 10 ranks in any skill (major or minor) related to that attribute. The +5 has nothing to do with skill groups.

For example, to get a +5 in Endurance on my next level, I could increase my Heavy Armor by 5 ranks, my Armorer by 3 ranks, and my Block by 2 ...
