Help With Levelling, Attributes & Skills

Post by ivory_kitten »

I want to maximise my level bonuses, how do I know when i get +5? Does it have to be from each of the attributes in the skill group or will just one do?

If I over-maximise it will it carry over for the next level up?

You get the +5 in an attribute by increasing 10 ranks in any skill (major or minor) related to that attribute. The +5 has nothing to do with skill groups.

For example, to get a +5 in Endurance on my next level, I could increase my Heavy Armor by 5 ranks, my Armorer by 3 ranks, and my Block by 2 ranks. Or I could get 10 ranks in Block. etc. etc.

Apparently, any extra skill ranks you earn are carried over to the next level.

Yes ulorian is right.

First choose (think) wich stats you want to rise higher. After that try to rise the skills that have as the governing attribute this skill.

For example;

If you want to rise your intelligence, to have to rise (and-or) Mysticism, Alchemy, Conjuration.
Those who think about the end, could not be a hero...

If you want to avoid all that kind of stuff you could try one of the many mods around that streamline the levelling process. If you use PC ofcourse.

Thanks guys, I hope Ulorian is right, then it doesn't matter if I maximise them too much, glad it's not for the whole group because there are some skills (Light Armor, Blunt & Marksman) that I don't use very often!

Thanks Denethorn, but I have the XBOX 360 version!

Oops

Slight correction to my earlier post: skill ranks above 10 only count towards your next level between the time you gain your tenth rank in major skills and the time you actually rest to gain your level.

Example: Since my last level up, I've gained 3 ranks in Block, 4 in Blade, and 2 in Alteration, all 3 of which are major skills for me. I've also gained 10 ranks in Sneak, a minor skill. If I gain an 11th rank in Sneak right now, it won't be saved for my next level up. If I wait until I get a 5th rank in Blade, I'll then have 10 ranks in major skills, I'll get the in-game message telling me to rest. At this point, it's safe for me to gain an 11th rank in Sneak i.e. that 11th rank will count as my first Agility rank towards my next level.

Ulorian, if I understand you correctly (and just to make sure I understand this correctly myself), the only skill "level ups" that carry over to the next level are Major Skills right? Say for example if I was in an Oblivion Gate and leveled up my major skills a total of ten times, and got the message to rest and meditate on what I have learned. Any other major skills that I leveled up while still in the gate--and before resting would carry over to my next level. But if I leveled up a minor skill 15 times (not that this would happen but for sake of arguement) I would only get an attribute modifier for 10 of those level ups and the other 5 would -not- carry over due to it being a minor skill right? My next level after resting would start the minor skill clock back at zero, meaning that I would have to get 10 skill increases to give me the maximum attribute modifier for that governing attribute for this level as well. I wouldn't have to get just 5 because I got the 15 minor skill levels last level up.
