perhaps it could be part of a quest
(you only become one during the quest) and perhaps if this was how it worked, you would be able to turn into one if you wanted to from then on(like a spell or something)

Don't donate your wife just go the chapel and then teleport to one of the places with a merc ( like oakvale, bowerstone south, twinblades camp, etc)
pay the merc to follow you and use cullis gates to get to the rest of em so you can teleport right back to the chapel when you want then just wait til ...

I beleive HoodeRogue is right, you can teleport from bowerstone or anywhere to the guild then teleport again jsut using your guild seal.

Or the long haired person is actually hero himself , lol that would still leave a hidden haircut and hidden expression in the game though

You can open the door without the key, they probably just forgot to make the door start as locked. If not, it could still have another use.
