In the Collectors Edition, has anyone come accross any of the following, and where:
Weapons: Demonic Katana, Divine Bladerelic, any of the Demonblades, Scythe of Winter, Soul Harvester, Spear of the Magus.
Spells:
Arcane: Burning Vapors, Freezing Vapours, Fire Missiles, Fire Storm, Ice Storm ...

Char & area access

Try Adept, Mage, Sorcerer, Valkyrie, WarWitch. (also choose the cataclysm spell rather than steel in the quest for Vartug's eye).

I totaly aggree with you. The acid room (in shadow ruins) really ruined the game for me --- I have not been able to pass it yet.

mountain access

there are many access points to the mountains, and any area is accessible early in the game (to find better weapons, armor, etc.) -- it is a good idea to get a moonstone early to take full advantage of this.
some of the most powerful weapons are to be found in the black swamp area ...
