This is prolly a dumb question but have you gone to the Solstheim Island? Thats the only place Spriggons are known to roam. My longbow braks quite alot also but thats because I let those that I fight get too close while using it.

The directions in game are quite generic indeed. I feel it adds to the playability of the game. Ive come across many areas to explore while out looking for the needle in the haystack. Most of the time between quests, duties..etc etc I just roam the land seeing what I can get into.
