I've killed Jezebel, talked to Tin Can Bill and gone down into the sewers to look for more plaguebearers. The problem is that I only find rats down there. THe walkthrough says "Pick the lock of the door at the end of the first sewer tunnel ...

Unfortunately, since you've talked her into that alley, you have no other alternative now. The only way to complete the quest and uphold the Masquerade is to kill her. Just make sure no one sees you.

That's one I haven't seen. Did you start playing the game, and then install the unofficial patch afterward? Each time you install one of the unofficial patches, you have to start a new game. Otherwise, strange things happen.

Sometimes doors need keys.. and other times, the doors lead no where.. they're just props in the game. During quests you might eventually find a key to those doors. So don't stress! You'll find them soon enough :)

Normally if I come to a locked door, get the lock icon, and press "E", I'll at last try to pick the lock. If it's too difficult, I still try to pick it, and fail.

Watches, car stereos, weapons, rings, medicines are not important at all so feel free to sell them. The only time you need a medicine is the (spoiler so highlight to read) morphine early on in the game . Keep items that are occult or vampire type stuff as they can come in handy throughout the game ...

I'm in Santa Monica and have just found out that somebody has gone
downtown. If I want to follow him there, I can walk through the sewers,
but I saw a reference to taking a cab downtown. So I have a possibly
stupid question: how do I find a cab in this game? I haven't seen any
so far...

I downloaded and installed the latest nVidia drivers, and it solved the
problem - now everything seems to work fine, and in fact the animations
run smoother than before.

CPU: 3.2 GHz Pentium 4 with 1GB of RAM
Video Card: NVidia GeForce FX 5600XT with 256 MB of RAM
Video Drivers: Ancient!
