In at least 1.2 vanilla, you can't buff your way past this. Elysium - no disciplines or weapons. In some of the unofficial upgrades, maybe that is different.

You can't blood buff before you lockpick, but if you click (E), then blood buff while lockpicking, you get the effect. That is how I picked ...

... And secondly you can get your firearms skill up at minimum three without spending an XP (book at Trip's place twice + freebee from Romero), so if you have 0 in firearms at that point... you're not taking the cheese.
