Applying a patch Bloodlines from Valve?

Post by Jonnie1678 »

Hi there.

I recently downloaded Bloodlines from Valve and although I had read that the game was buggy, everything was fine until just before what is supposed to be the final piece of dialogue at the end of "Calling Dr. Grout". I've looked through this forum using the search function but I can't find any one else who's had this problem.

Basically, as I leave Grout's bedroom and head onto the balcony the view through the door goes screwy. I can find some burning vamps to kill but when I do that and escape the mansion to return to Le Crouix it seems like I haven't completed the quest. There are a few other graphics bugs at the end of "Calling Dr. Grout" and I'm thinking that I need to install a patch. Having downloaded the 1.2 patch I find that the .exe can't find the installed game as the Valve installation seems to set up a different directory structure to the one the v1.2 authors had in mind when they released the patch.

Does anyone know of a way of patching a version of the game manually or of a programme that works with the downloaded game? I'd really appreciate it if someone could let me know what to do as I was really enjoying the game but will have to return it (Somehow) if I can't get this sorted.

Thanks in advance.

So let me get this straight, you walk into the room to find a staked and ashen Grout, then open the door leading to an interior balconey? At this point do you have a dialog with Grunefeld Bach or do you immediately jump to escaping from the burning house?

Isn't the Steam release already patched to 1.2?

Thanks for the reply.

In answer to your question I walk into the room, find Grout's remains and then open the doors onto the interior balcony. As the doors open the graphics foul up briefly but I can walk through to see a burning vamp in the room below. There's no conversation with anyone. I can jump down into the room and continue playing the game as normal, kill the vamps ( I think that there's two of them) and proceed to jump out of the window. But when I return to Down Town the Prince just tells me that the Primogen don't like to be kept waiting and the only dialogue options are to ask about people and places or head on off to the Grout mansion to find out why he doesn't answer the phone any more.

I think that the missing conversation means that I can't gain the information that would complete the quest. I was toying with the idea of cheating (I gather that I can edit the quest log somehow through the console) but I don't want to have to keep doing this if there's a way to patch up the game and make it more playable.

Thanks

Anyhow, I managed to get through the Grout mansion by returning to a saved game from some time before I had problems and running through again. I also downloaded 3.4 and copied the files manually into where they looked like they should go!

All went well until I delivered the sarcophagus to the prince to find I was in the same dialogue as when I got back from the museum! Have tried going back and running through again but to no avail. Quite frustrated and shall have to abandon the game!

EDIT

Have found the solution by searching the forum. Forget I mentioned it!
