If you need to pick pockets, just have Nalia drink a couple potions of master thievery. Then you can steal some potions of master thievery, even, or whatever else needed.

Intelligence matters

Intelligence determines your chance of memorizing a scroll. My charismatic but dim sorcerer, Charles the Red, needs two potions of genius to get up to a reasonable 96% chance to memorize spells.
